Why Did My Order or Copy Fail?

Last checked against the product: 2026-10-19

The short answer

Hyperliquid's error text can point the wrong way. Three causes cover the common cases here. 1) The bot's agent key is not valid. 2) The builder fee is not approved. 3) A copy was skipped, or an order did not fill. Find your message below.

1. "User or API Wallet ... does not exist"

It sounds like a problem with your main wallet, but it is about the agent key, the limited key the bot signs with. Hyperliquid answers this way when it does not recognise that key for your account. The key may never have been approved, may have run out, or may have been replaced or removed. The cause can differ from case to case.

Hypertide does not act on this error text alone. It asks Hyperliquid whether the key is still registered before it treats the key as gone. If the key is gone, copying stops until you approve a new one.

What to do: renew the key, using the steps in hypertide.app/guides/revoke-and-renew-your-key.

2. The builder fee is not approved

The builder fee is the second signature when you connect. Without it, Hyperliquid refuses the orders the bot places for you. On the web connect page you see a message asking you to approve the Hypertide builder fee in your wallet then tap Retry.

What to do: approve it once in your wallet, then try again. What you sign, and what it allows, is in hypertide.app/guides/what-you-sign-when-you-connect.

3. A copy did not happen, or an order did not fill

The common reasons: the trader you follow has not opened or added to a position since you followed, the copy was smaller than Hyperliquid's minimum order size (about $10), your free balance was too small or unknown, your follow is paused, or you reached the open-copy limit.

Some of these are not errors. A quiet trader is not a failure. What to do: go through the list in hypertide.app/guides/why-no-copy-yet.

What can still go wrong

Copies can fill at a different price than the trader got, or be skipped. A followed trader can lose money, and so can you. Copy orders use your agent key to place trades on your account.

What this page does not tell you

It does not cover every Hyperliquid error, and it cannot tell which cause applies to you. It describes the app as of 2026-10-19. More at hypertide.app/how.
