Hyperliquid Says the Builder Fee Has Not Been Approved: What It Means

Last checked against the product: 2026-10-19

The short answer

The message means Hyperliquid has no fee approval from your main wallet for the app that sent the order, or the approval is lower than the fee the order carries. Until you sign the approval, Hyperliquid refuses every order that carries that fee. With Hypertide, the fix is to sign the builder-fee approval in your wallet. It is a message you sign, so it costs no gas and moves no funds.

What a builder fee is

A builder fee is Hyperliquid's way of letting an app earn a fee on the orders it sends for you. Per Hyperliquid's builder-code documentation, you approve a maximum fee for each builder, and each order the app sends states the fee it charges. The fee on an order cannot be above what you approved.

Hyperliquid caps a builder fee at 0.1% on perpetual futures. The approval sets a maximum. It is not a withdrawal permission.

Why the order was refused

Hyperliquid's documentation says the approval is a separate action, called ApproveBuilderFee, and that it must be signed by your main wallet, not by an agent key. Approving the bot's agent key does not approve the fee. They are two different signatures.

So the usual cause is that you signed the first approval (the agent) and never finished the second (the fee), for example because the page was closed in between. The other cause is an approval that is lower than the fee Hypertide charges you.

Hypertide's connect step checks this with Hyperliquid before it finishes. If your approval is missing or too low, it stops with the message "One more signature: approve the Hypertide builder fee in your wallet, then tap Retry." If it cannot read your approval yet, it asks you to wait a few seconds and tap Retry.

If an order reaches Hyperliquid anyway and it replies with a builder fee error, Hypertide recognises that reply as a missing fee approval. It is not treated as a problem with one order. It means orders sent with our fee will keep being refused until you approve.

How to fix it with Hypertide

Open the Hypertide bot in Telegram and send /start force. It sends a connect button again. Open it and sign the builder-fee approval in your wallet when it asks. Use the same wallet you connected before. If the page shows a Retry button, tap it after you sign.

Do not use /start force_new_agent for this. That command is for renewing the trading key, and /start force is the one that reopens the connect page without creating a new key.

What happens to your copies meanwhile

Orders refused for this reason are not placed, so copies that depend on them do not happen. Positions that are already open stay open on Hyperliquid. Check them there.

In its daily summary, Hypertide treats this error as one that blocks the whole day, not as a single refused order.

Other messages that look alike

A message about an agent or API wallet that does not exist, or has expired, is a different problem with the trading key. See the guide on revoking and renewing the key. A message that the account must deposit first means the account holds no funds on Hyperliquid. An order below the minimum size or without enough margin is skipped on its own and does not point to the fee approval.

Taking the approval back

Hyperliquid's documentation says you can revoke a builder's permission at any time. It does not give the steps, and we have not checked them in Hyperliquid's app, so we do not list them here. Once the approval is gone, orders from Hypertide are refused again with the same message.

What can still go wrong

Approving the fee does not make any trade safe. A followed trader can lose money, and so can you. Copies can fill at a different price from the trader's or be skipped. Hyperliquid's own trading fees are separate and still apply.

What this page does not tell you

It does not tell you whether to connect or whom to follow. It describes the app as of 2026-10-19. The Hyperliquid facts come from its builder-code documentation, read on 2026-10-19, and Hyperliquid may change them. More at hypertide.app/fees, hypertide.app/custody and hypertide.app/how.
