Pause, Stop Copying or Close: What Happens to Your Open Positions
Last checked against the product: 2026-10-20
The short answer
There are three different actions. Pause stops new copies and leaves what you hold. Stop copying removes the trader from your list; in the bot, and in the Mini-App unless you tick a box, the positions stay open on Hyperliquid with nobody managing them. Stop all copying pauses every active copy and tries to close the positions those copies hold. Pick the one that matches what you want to happen to the positions you already hold.
Pause
Pause is /pause in the bot, or Pause copying in the Mini-App. While a trader is paused, the trader's new trades are not copied for you. Positions you already hold are not closed by the pause itself.
Pause does not switch off every safeguard. If you set a take-profit or stop-loss on that copy, it can still close a paused copy's positions. A position the trader has already exited can also still be closed after the grace period, because Hypertide keeps checking paused copies for that.
/resume (or Resume in the Mini-App) starts copying again as a new session.
Drawdown auto-pause
If you set a drawdown stop in your risk settings, Hypertide checks your recent copy losses against your account value. When the loss reaches your threshold it pauses all your active copies and sends you a message. That is the same paused state as above: new copies stop, open positions stay, and /resume continues. It does not close anything. To close those positions, use stop copying with the tick box in the Mini-App, /close in the bot, or Hyperliquid itself. Stop all copying will not close them, because those copies are already paused.
Stop copying in the bot
/unfollow followed by the trader's name or address stops copying that trader. The bot's reply says the open copy positions stay open, that the bot no longer manages them (no stop-loss, take-profit or auto-close), and that you can close them with /close followed by the market, for example /close BTC, or on Hyperliquid itself. /close BTC 50 closes half.
In Hypertide's records those positions are marked as no longer copy positions. On Hyperliquid they are still open, so they can still gain or lose money, pay funding and, on a leveraged position, be liquidated.
Stop copying in the Mini-App
Open the trader's copy settings in the Mini-App and use the stop copying button. Just above it is a tick box, "Also close open mirror positions on stop copying". It starts unticked.
Unticked, it behaves like the bot: copying stops and the positions stay open on Hyperliquid, unmanaged. Ticked, Hypertide first pauses that copy so nothing new opens, then sends a reduce-only market order to close each open copied position.
A close is only counted when it is confirmed filled. If Hyperliquid rejects one or it does not fill, the Mini-App says how many positions are still live and tells you to close them in Trade. Hypertide retries such a close a few times in the background and messages you if it still has not closed, but do not rely on that; check your positions.
Stop all copying
On the Mini-App Portfolio tab, Stop all copying is the one-tap brake. It asks you to confirm, shows how many copies it will pause and how many open copied positions it will close at market, then does both for every active copy. Pausing comes first, so nothing new opens while it closes.
It only closes positions on copies that are active when you tap it. A copy that is already paused, for example after a drawdown auto-pause, keeps its positions open, and the button is hidden when no copy is active. Close those with stop copying and the tick box, with /close, or on Hyperliquid. It touches only copied positions. Trades you placed yourself are left alone. The copies are paused, not removed, so you can resume them. As with a single stop, any close that fails is reported as still live, and it stays open until it is closed.
The fee on a close
Closing is not free. Every filled order carries the builder fee, including the one that closes a position, whether you close it with /close, the Mini-App tick box or Stop all copying. The Standard rate is 0.10% of the filled amount and the VIP rate is 0.05%, charged on the part that fills. Details are at hypertide.app/guides/hyperliquid-builder-fees-copy-traders and hypertide.app/fees. Hyperliquid's own trading fees are separate.
A position left open after you stop copying has not paid its closing fee yet. It is charged when you close it through Hypertide.
What this page does not tell you
It does not tell you whether to close, pause or keep a position. A closing order is market-style and may fill at a different price than you saw, and a position left open can lose money. Hypertide cannot guarantee that a close fills. This page describes the app as of 2026-10-20. For why a copy did not fill, see hypertide.app/guides/why-did-my-order-or-copy-fail.
